2,200 fish have been recorded through the counter so far this season (2023). This figure is above the management target but shows a slow decline in the numbers of fish returning to the Roe.
Those who attended the FASTA/Loughs Agency conference will know that salmon stocks are declining almost everywhere. Most of the damage is done at sea but we can do our bit when they return to our river. Good work was done in the past improving spawning and nursery areas. We need to do more of this. As we near the end of the season anglers are asked to think carefully before taking fish, especially gravid hen fish. Unless we get a late run our river is struggling.
